The Saint Louis Zoo is seeking a Landscape Architect to join our design team working on the creation of our new 422 acre WildCare Park in Spanish Lake and improvements to the South Campus in Forest Park. The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting design documents including architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, and other related tasks including model building, specification writing, printing and filing. This full-time, temporary (anticipated five years or more) position reports to the Director of Architecture. The successful candidate will represent the Zoo’s core values of Community, Creativity, Openness, Integrity and Life-Work Balance. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit a criminal background check and drug test. COVID vaccinations are required for this position.
Job Responsibilities

Analyze current building codes, and other regulations/requirements to establish how they affect landscape construction drawings, and stay up-to-date on all required and relevant codes

Prepare landscape and irrigation design drawings including soil and erosion control, forest conservation regulations/design, grading, detailed site design, and native landscape planting plans

Perform site visits during design and construction activities to ensure quality control and adherence to final plan

Develop solutions, cost and schedule estimates and preliminary designs associated with initial development and budgeting of projects.

Prepare specifications for landscape construction projects

Ensure completion of necessary reviews, permits, approvals, zoning changes and compliance with policies

Use computer-aided drafting (CAD) software programs and equipment or a conventional drafting station to create and modify architectural and landscape documents, designs, working drawings, forms, charts and records.

Prepare and edit project manual components including bid requirements, material specifications, schedules, etc., following Saint Louis Zoo procurement policy.

Draw detailed and rough scale plans based upon preliminary concepts, sketches, specification sheets, and other provided data.

Acquire and assemble information needed to finish designs, drawings, and visiting job sites when necessary to gather data.

Research and analyze environmental reports on land conditions

Participate in take-offs and project estimating
Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from an accredited university required.

Proficiency in BIM (REVIT) software, AutoCAD, MS Office including PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite

Must possess valid Missouri driver’s license with no restrictions to work in the United States

5 years’ experience minimum

Missouri Landscape Architecture license preferred

Sustainable Sites Accredited Professional, SITES AP preferred

Good analytical, communications and human relations skills required. Must be able to handle multiple assignments/projects with varying completion dates and effectively prioritize.
