Youth Programs Supervisor

Responsibilities

Coordinate and supervise all educational aspects of the summer overnight program and Spring/Winter break camp programs at the Zoo. This includes ordering and maintaining supplies, designing curriculum and leading educational activities, crafts, games, and tours. Schedule and train seasonal staff and volunteers that conduct Zoo summer overnights and Spring/Winter break camps. Model a positive attitude and practice responsible conservation behavior.  Handle overnight and camp situations that arise during the programs. In addition, this position will help coordinate scout badge programs as needed.

Work Schedule

Weekly hours vary throughout the year, depending on programming. Typical schedule would be Tuesday-Thursday in the office and an overnight on Friday evening. Spring/ summer hours may include up to 2 overnights per week and one day in the office. Most overnight programs occur on Friday and Saturday nights year round and on various weeknights throughout the year.  Overnight hours are approximately 5:00 pm - 9:30 am.  Other programs occur on evening, weekends, and during school breaks and holidays.  

Qualifications

• Must have a college degree preferred in either a biological science or education field.
• Must have experience teaching children and families in a formal or informal setting.
• Must understand basic concepts of zoology, wildlife conservation, and environmental education and desire to share the wonders of the natural world with families and children.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must be willing to be trained in First Aid, CPR, AED and Food Safety.
• Must have or be willing to be vaccinated for Hepatitis A.
• Must possess excellent customer service, organization and communication skills.
• Must be able to working with people of all ability levels and backgrounds.
• Supervisory and camp experience is helpful.
