Information Technology Director
Summary: Responsible for leading the museum’s technology team in supporting the institution’s needs. Services provided by the technology group range from requirements documentation to solution evaluation, software integration, implementation, and ongoing support. The position’s primary role is to understand and communicate institutional priorities, create a road map for projects and systems integration, ensure work delivery is on time, on budget and at a high quality level. The IT team’s primary goal is to enable users with technology to support staff, volunteers and museum operations in delivery of the museum’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Working with the Deputy Director & Controller, as well as key stakeholders, understands the ongoing institutional needs of current and future technologies; develops and executes short and long range plans for meeting those needs.

Understands the technology and data needs of key partners (finance, human resources, development, building operations, education, etc.) to identify and recommend areas of opportunity, data integration, current/best practices, process improvement and implementation strategies.

Develop, implement, and support a museum-wide security program.

Develop reliable metrics for hardware, software, and storage while ensuring strategic capacity planning.

Identify security vulnerabilities and eliminate them with strategic solutions that increase data safety.

Mitigate risk appropriately through ongoing vendor analysis, security reviews, performing risk assessments, emergency planning, etc. Make timely recommendations. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including privacy laws and PCI compliance.

Develop proactive critical incident response plans to address systems issues to prevent/minimize disruption, including after-hours response protocols.

Participate in the budget forecasting process and manage annual capital budgets. Oversee the purchase and ongoing compliance of all software licenses and hardware-related technology.

Responsible for hiring, building, managing/coaching, and evaluating a high performing internal technology team. Perform all other supervisory responsibilities associated with the IT department.

Seek methods for process optimization to include improving automation and productivity within the tech team and beyond. Introduce ideas to make the museum, staf,f and volunteers work more effectively.

Create and maintain documentation of all critical processes and standard operating procedures. Keep accurate records and inventory of museum property and technology assets.

Develop and maintain effective and productive working relationships with user departments, senior managers, and vendors. Communicate effectively and regularly (directly and indirectly through staff) to ensure management and staff are informed with appropriate information/updates at the appropriate level for their use and understanding of systems issues.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in IT, computer engineering, business administration or related field; MBA a plus. Five or more years in a lead IT role, managing process, technical projects, and other solution-driven initiatives. At least five years of progressive experience in managing functions and departments dealing with information handling, workflow, and systems. Direct management of a major IT operation is preferred with experience in IT planning to support strategic business goals. Experience should include substantial exposure to in-house and shared or outsourced systems, multiple hardware platforms, and integrated information and communications systems. Certification or equivalent in programming/system development. Ability to handle multiple and competing priorities. Demonstrated exceptional relationship and collaborating skills while leveraging resources appropriately. Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
Additional Details:
Status: Regular full-time (37.5 hours/week), salaried. Due to the nature of the responsibilities, evening and weekend work is sometimes required, and at times may be on an emergency basis.
