Professional Development and Legal Recruiting Manager

Qualified candidates for this exempt position will hold a Bachelor degree and be proficient in LawCruit software. Experience developing legal professional development programming preferred, as is experience working with human resources performance metrics.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for development and implementation of law student recruiting and hiring efforts, works with the Director of Professional Recruiting & Development and the Employment Committee.
  • Manages the summer associate recruiting and hiring:
    • Reviews and screens resumes submitted by candidates;
    • Manages the scheduling of on-campus interviews (“OCI”);
    • Coordinates attorney information packets for OCI;
    • Schedules all follow-up and call-back interviews for candidates and coordinate necessary logistics;
    • Coordinates interview schedules for candidates;
    • Meets with Employment Committee and organizes and presents candidate information/evaluations; and
    • Plans, coordinates and attends summer program events, including substantive and social events.
  • Responsible for the overall functioning and accuracy of LawCruit in all steps of the recruiting process and in support of the summer associate program:
    • Produces appropriate reports;
    • Manages and update all automated forms and templates;
    • Provides technical support and resolves LawCruit issues for department; and
    • Provides training to other users as needed.
  • Serves as main contact for Micron (LawCruit vendor).
  • Assists the Director of Professional Recruiting & Development as needed in monitoring the recruiting budget, approving recruiting-related expenses, and paying invoices for same.
  • Develops content for law student recruiting external web site and ensures site remains current.
  • Coordinates arrangements and orientation for Fall Associates.
  • In conjunction with the Marketing Department, develops marketing materials for law student recruiting.
  • Develops and implements plans to establish a recognizable “employer of choice” reputation for the Firm, both internally and externally
  • Develops and implements plans to build relationships with key law schools and their career services personnel.
  • In conjunction with the Marketing Department, develops and maintains a firmwide branding scheme for the firm’s law student and lateral attorney recruiting, including a logo and tagline.
  • Keeps current on industry best practices impacting policy and the recruitment and retention of attorneys by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g., professional associations and educational groups, and professional development efforts).
  • Produces monthly, year-end and ad hoc recruiting reports.
  • Develops and implements attorney professional development programming.
  • Develops and implements paralegal professional development programming.
  • Provides guidance to Professional Development & Legal Recruiting Coordinator in CLE compliance process, maintenance of compliance files and attorney files, and completion of annual MO reports (Form 1).
  • Recruiting and retention projects as assigned by the Director of Professional Recruiting & Development.
  • Assists Director of Professional Recruiting & Development in the development of the annual department administrative operations plan and budget.

Job Requirements

  • Preferred candidates will have a working knowledge of CLE accreditation requirements and Missouri’s annual compliance process.
  • Requires ability to use tact and diplomacy when interacting with others, and ability to communicate professionally with attorneys, candidates, department members, and other internal and external stakeholders.


  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence. Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Must have ability to read, write, and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects, and strong time management skills.
  • Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
  • Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • This is a full-time position which requires working in the office a minimum of 40 hours per week on a regular basis. Oftentimes, it may also include working outside of normal business hours to ensure completion of position requirements.
  • The physical demands of this position are representative of those that might be met by an employee in order for him or her to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the workday, having the ability to transport 20 pounds and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
