International Trade Analyst


Thompson Coburn LLP currently has a non-exempt position available in our Washington, D.C. office for a full-time International Trade Analyst with two or more years of experience in international trade compliance and/or financial services due diligence.  Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor degree in Business, International Trade or a related field, and a Customs Broker License is a plus.  The person selected for this position must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reviews and researches publicly available information on the Internet and compliance databases to determine if individuals and companies have a possible nexus with countries subject to U.S. economic sanctions and/or parties that are on lists of sanctioned or restricted persons published by the United States and other countries.
  • Maintenance and organization of documentation associated with investigations, penalty actions, and disclosures.
  • Under the supervision of an attorney, assists in the preparation of government filings.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of data and prepare reports in Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn how to classify merchandise for import and export.
  • Assists attorneys in conducting various types of compliance audits and reviews. 
  • Prepares the initial production of international trade process flow descriptions and compliance manuals.
  • Billable hour requirement of 1600 hours per calendar year.

  • Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and strong time management skills.
  • Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
  • Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
  • Must be able to work overtime if necessary.
  • Ability to travel if necessary.
  • The physical demands of this position are representative of those that might be met by an employee in order for him or her to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the workday, having the ability to transport 20 pounds and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
