Gallery Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Gallery Manager
(non-exempt, Grade I)
MINIMUM OF RANGE:      $20.45/hour
SUPERVISES: Gallery Attendants
SPECIFICATIONS: High School diploma required.  College Degree preferred.  At least two years of supervisory experience is preferred.  Knowledge of security principals, fire prevention, job safety and first aid will be helpful.  Must be detail oriented and able to communicate with the public and staff in a polite and courteous manner.  Computer skills are helpful.  Must have the ability to train and develop designated personnel.   Must be able to work flexible schedules and hours including holidays, weekends and evening events.   Must be able to provide oral and written reports in a clear manner. Attendance must be reliable and punctual.
JOB PURPOSE: To supervise the Gallery staff of the Museum.  .
  • Supervise the Gallery staff on assigned shifts:
  • Prior to posting, give oral and written instructions and assignments to department staff.
  • Check Galleries prior to opening, unlock doors, turn of Exhibits, call Museum open each day.  Resecure at end of day.
  • Inspect the uniforms of the Gallery staff prior to assignments.
  • Conduct coaching sessions with staff and make disciplinary actions of staff according to Museum and Department procedures.
  • Complete and conduct performance evaluations of staff.
  • Coordinate and provide training of new staff and in service training for existing staff.
  • Perform duties of Gallery Attendants when needed.
  • Record all activities occurring on shift.
  • Respond to Gallery Attendant requests and meet with visitors as needed to resolve complaints.
  • Schedule Gallery Attendants according to museum needs.
  • Approve timesheets and time off requests, ensure accuracy of records and monitor hours.
  • Conduct inspections of building for safety of visitors and protection of collection.
  • Investigate incidents of damage to person or property and report in writing to the Gallery Manager or the Director of Operations and Security.
