Diversity Manager

Thompson Coburn LLP currently has an exempt position available in our St. Louis office for a full time Diversity Manager to serve as the subject matter expert on diversity and inclusion initiatives, programs and policies for the Firm which help drive achievement of the Firm’s goals. Qualified applicants will have at least four years of management or supervisory experience in a major law firm or corporation and possess a Bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree preferred.  The person selected for this position must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
 
Job Responsibilities
  • Develops and recommends training materials to educate Firm partners and employees on how to recognize, accommodate and appreciate individual differences and how these can be bridged back to assist the Firm in meeting its strategic goals.
  • Develops metrics for measuring the effectiveness of Firm diversity initiatives implemented and prepares reports on the value of the initiatives.
  • Provides administrative support to the Firm’s Diversity Steering Committee and its subcommittees, as well as the Firm’s affinity groups.
  • Coordinates and prepares submissions or diversity-related surveys and applications.
  • In conjunction with the Marketing Department, develops content for diversity external web site and ensures site remains current, develops appropriate diversity content for Firm’s social media accounts and TC Connect.
  • Keeps current on diversity programs and developments impacting policy and the recruitment and retention of partners and employees by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g., professional association and educational groups, and professional development efforts).
  • Manages the Firm’s supplier diversity initiative.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert on diversity and inclusion initiatives, programs and policies for partners and employees in the organization, which help drive achievement of the Firm’s strategic goals.
  • Assists with the development of policies, programs and initiatives to attract, retain and promote a diverse workforce in the Firm, while being mindful of the Firm’s unique needs and the appropriateness of what is being developed.
  • Assists in creating reports, analyzing data and creating presentations to support diversity recommendations that drive a call to action.
  • Assists in ensuring integration of diversity and inclusion principles into the Firm’s culture and managing diversity-related messaging consistent with overarching Firm communications; this will involve collaborating with internal and external communicators to develop and maintain a single voice, presentation and feel for diversity communications.
  • Assists in development and maintenance of a firmwide branding scheme for the Firm’s diversity programs and initiatives.
  • Assists the Diversity Steering Committee Co-Chairs, the Director of Professional Recruiting, Development & Diversity and the Director of Human Resources as needed in developing and monitoring the Firm’s diversity budgets.
  • Assists the Director of Professional Recruiting, Development & Diversity with development of attorney professional development initiatives to assist with recruiting and retention.
  • Represents the Firm at various internal and external functions, serving as Firm spokesperson on diversity and inclusion issues.
  • Responsible for diversity and professional development projects as requested by the Director of Professional Recruiting, Development & Diversity or the Director of Human Resources.
  • Assists in the development annual administrative operations plans and budgets.
Job Requirements
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and  interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence. Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and have strong time management skills.
  • Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
  • Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
  • This is a full time position which requires working in the office a minimum of 40 hours on a regular basis.  Oftentimes it may include working outside of normal business hours to ensure completion of position requirements. 
  • Ability to travel if necessary. 
  • The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee in order for him or her to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the work day, having the ability to transport 20 pounds and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
