Billing Specialist - 1/2018

Thompson Coburn LLP currently has a non-exempt position available for a full time Billing Specialist, which supports the Business Office and attorney goals while providing quality customer service. This position is responsible for coordinating the preparation and processing of client billing for attorneys.  Qualified applicants will have two years of experience in professional services billing or in a related areas, and/or an Associate’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.  The person selected for this position must be able to work closely with a diverse group of people in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibilities
  • Utilizes Aderant Expert, PreBill Manager or similar software to process client bills.
  • Ensures that bills and the billing process adhere to Firm guidelines, quality standards, deadlines and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively and timely with supervisor, clients, ebilling vendors, attorneys and assistants on all billing related issues.
  • Researches and responds to billing-related issues timely and effectively.
  • Documents, updates and communicates procedures, known issues or workarounds to users. 
  • Prepares special documents and reports requested by management, clients or attorneys.
  • Works with billing supervisor and billing & collections manager in identifying billing trends and proactively seeks ways to improve current processes and maximize efficiency within the group.
  • Enhances and maintains a repository of documentation, including status of work, to enable other personnel to function effectively during absences or workload changes.
Job Requirements
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of billing rates, alternative fee arrangements, bill groups and related billing topics and systems such as Expert Image or similar electronic document storage software.
  • Must display excellent customer service.
  • Must possess strong collaboration skills to successfully work in a team environment.
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence.  Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and have strong time management skills.
  • Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered and raise questions or concerns.
  • Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
  • Must have ability to collect information through communication, questioning and interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee in order for him or her to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the work day, having the ability to transport 25 pounds, and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
