Our Traffic Associates have the privilege of being, in most cases, the National Zoo’s first impression. Traffic Associates are essential in starting our unsurpassed visitor experience. They are responsible for directing vehicle traffic and pedestrians through the Zoo. Traffic Associates must maintain a constant flow of traffic through the park while being friendly and pleasant. They assist the Parking Associates in providing safe, efficient and appropriate access to and from parking lots.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Greeting visitors , anticipating their needs, and providing a positive experience
- Providing parking instruction, guidance, assistance to visitors as they arrive to the Zoo
- Directing visitors to parking areas or parking spaces using hand signals or flashlights
- Ensuring the safety of visitors in the Zoo and aiding visitors who need the assistance of the Health Unit or NZP Police
- Lifting, positioning, and removing barricades or signage in order to open and close parking lots
- Using the appropriate safety equipment such as reflective vests and hats to ensure a safe work environment
- Helping visitors with information and directions in a courteous manner
- Keeping work area clean and organized with the appropriate parking supplies and/or signage
Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 16 years or older
- Must be able to stand for the entire shift in one location in a variety of weather conditions
- Must possess excellent verbal communication skills
- Must be courteous, friendly, and helpful
- Proactive and outgoing nature
- Availability to work weekends, evenings and holidays
- Ability to work effectively and safely in a fast paced environment
- Ability to frequently lift, push, and carry objects of up to 50 lbs
