POSITION AVAILABLE: Assistant Painting Conservator
The Saint Louis Art Museum seeks to fill the position of assistant painting conservator. This is a full time, two year position with benefits and travel. The successful candidate will be under the direction of the painting conservator. The conservation department also employs conservators in the specialties of objects, paper, and textiles, plus a mount maker and frame technician.
This position monitors, assesses, and treats paintings from the comprehensive (Early European to contemporary) collections of the Saint Louis Art Museum. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to produce excellent condition and treatment reports and photo-documentation. Knowledge of various materials over a wide range of old master to contemporary paintings is necessary in order to achieve excellent treatment results while adhering to the AIC code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate should have effective oral and written communication skills, ability to work to deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively with conservators and curators. A degree from a recognized conservation program is required, and several years’ experience in a museum is highly preferred.
