Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) is seeking a dynamic and energetic leader for the position of Associate Director for Membership & Marketing. The position is located at the National Zoo’s 163-acre park in Washington, D.C.
This position will serve as a key member of the FONZ and National Zoo leadership teams advising on overall policies and goals and overseeing the strategic direction and operations of the FONZ membership, marketing, events and communications teams. These activities require close collaboration with FONZ and National Zoo staff.
Our national membership program includes acquisition, renewal, retention and fulfillment, and provides a critical first step in cultivating supporters at all levels of giving. The events team focuses on the development and production of fundraising events to engage our members and donors, and corporate events to generate revenue.
FONZ marketing and communications functions include various publications (newsletters, internet presence, ads, brochures, invitations, flyers, etc.), the acquisition and retention of corporate event and exhibit sponsorship, and promotional partnership development and coordination. Also included are public and media communications (publications, press releases, marketing materials, web content, etc.), securing major media support for events and programs, and publications such as ZooGoer.
As a newly consolidated function within FONZ, this key position will require a proven creative leader with 15+ years experience in the management of membership, marketing, events and communications functions, preferably in a non-profit setting. The ability to integrate related functions and build organizational cohesion and effectiveness is key.
